Llyn Mair is an artificial lake built as a 21st birthday gift for William Oakley's daughter, Mair. It is surrounded by ancient Oakwood and ornamental trees dating back to the Victorian era.
I consider myself to be very fortunate to be just a 10-minute drive away. It's one of my favorite places to go walking with Popi and Ned.
What is great about Coed Llyn Mair and Coed Hafod is that you can take a short circular stroll around the lake, go on a wander to the hidden Llyn Trefor Lake, find some of the magnificent viewpoints overlooking Afon Dwyryd, or simply have a picnic and feed the ducks. There is a suitable walk for everyone in these enchanting woodlands.
You might hear the whistle and smell the steam engine of the Ffestiniog Steam trains as they pass through the woods. Give them a wave if you catch a glimpse of them through the trees!
My Favourtie things:
Magnificent Japanese Redwood Trees
Ornamental pond surrounded by bamboos and mini waterfalls
The top viewpoint (it's a bit of a trek but it's worth it!)
Bluebells in the spring
Autumnal colours
Go for a walk come rain or shine! This place is beautiful even in the rain! "There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing" - Alfred Wainwright
